Richard Chaves Jr. hails from Texas and grew up 30 miles east of Dallas. Richard grew up watching his father grow and run the family business that his grandfather and great uncle started in 1964. That business is Parking Company of America, a Parking Management, Transportation Management, and Real Estate Development company. Richard began his career in 2017 when he joined the family business and took on the role of Executive Vice President. Richard oversaw the operations for Texas and New Mexico managing over 50 employees and 3 divisions of the company.
In early 2019, Richard approached his father about being promoted to CEO, and Richard Sr. gave him a task that would change the course of his life. Complete a deal from A to Z. Find it, acquire it, entitle it, build it, and set up operations. Then and only then could Richard go back home to Dallas. After almost a year of due diligence, in June of 2020, Richard Jr. made Kansas City, Missouri his home when his family acquired the Farmland Industries headquarters (The Ambassador Building) near KCI Airport from the City of Kansas City, and 62 vacant acres to develop a 4,000-space airport parking facility and mixed-use development. Richard immediately expanded Parking Company of America into Missouri, laying the foundation for the successful Midwest parking and transportation operations the company has today. His role within his family’s business has been transformational, serving first as the Executive Vice President and then as CEO since 2019. Under his leadership, the Parking Company of America has not only flourished in the parking sector but also significantly contributed to public transportation, managing services for private businesses, municipalities, public agencies, and non-profits including prominent contracts with the State of Missouri, KCATA, Port KC, City of Kansas City, Veteran's Community Project, and Platte Senior Services Inc. Richard has had great success in identifying and securing incentives for the family’s projects. Richard has obtained over $85 million in Public Incentives through TIF Plans, CID, and Backstop of Debt Service.
Richard’s commitment to infrastructure and community well-being deepened with personal milestones and a focus on public service. He has been actively involved in various organizations, including chairing the Northland Strong PAC, which advocates for pro-public safety and pro-development initiatives. He leads the Legislative Advocacy Subcommittee for the Northland Transportation Committee and has successfully advocated for a $53 million budget ask from the State of Missouri to expand and repair multiple highways in the Northland. Richard also sits on the Board and Executive Committee's for the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Platte County Economic Development Council. His hands-on experience with these groups has given him invaluable insights into regional infrastructure and development projects, their prioritization, and funding mechanisms.
In 2019 Richard met the love of his life, Taylor Vinyard. Together they have 2 children, Richard Chaves III (2 years old) and Evelyn Chaves (1 years old). Richard and his family live in the Northland part of Kansas City, MO. The third generation of the family is still very active in the business, although Richard has moved the family business to Missouri, he continues to work on growing and expanding the company's Parking Management, Transportation, and Real Estate Development divisions in Texas, California, New Mexico, Georgia, Colorado, Arizona, and Kansas with his dad Richard Chaves Sr, his aunts Barbara Griffith and Kathleen Chaves, his sisters Morgan Chaves and Alexis Bayouth, his brother Nick Chaves, his brother-in-law Carson Adcock, and his cousins Alex Chaves, Eric Chaves, Renee Chaves, and Aaron Chaves.
Richard's favorite part of his job is identifying real estate either for Commercial Development or Parking Assets, getting it financed, and master planning the development. Richard has identified, master planned, entitled, and sourced financing for over $150 million in deals since 2019. Richard, 29 years old, revived Realty Company of America, a company his grandfather started in the 1970's. Realty Company of America is a Real Estate Development firm that Richard hopes to grow and offer services like Property Management, Portfolio Management, Investments, and Capital Markets Consulting. Currently the company is working on an 800-acre mixed use development, and the Chaves Family's Real Estate holdings.
